The Pet System (ペットシステム Petto Shisutemu?) is a gameplay mechanic introduced in Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ / Union χ Version 2.3.1.

It allows the player to bring a pet, also called "Spirit", with them into a quest, and use it as a 6th Medal slot. The Pet System is unlocked after clearing Quest 14: The Mine Pt. 2.

The pet medal slot.

Mechanics

Players can name their pet and customize their pet's appearance with special Avatar Parts.

Pets can be leveled up by equipping them with up to six Medals. Medals have a certain number of points; when reaching enough points, the pet will grow in rank, increasing the multiplier on the Medal slot, as well as learn "Tricks". Medals that are equipped onto the pet are not deleted and can be changed at any time. Medals can be equipped onto the pet, even if they are already equipped on a Keyblade.

Having a pet gives the player access to a 6th Medal slot. This slot doesn't have an attribute associated with it, and the multiplier increases by raising the pet's rank.
